Painted Canvas

I did it again... I stepped out and tried something new! My husband knows how much I love art and crafting, as Christmas presents last year (this past Christmas) I received some new paints, brushes and canvas. I finally decided to pull out the art box and see what I could do. God did not gift me with drawing or painting abilities but I like to do it and I did. A friend of mine has seen some of my "projects" and said she would like to see something owl related. I, loving owls, decided to take her up on the challenge. (She just moved into her own apartment so this will also be an apartment warming gift.) Now keep in mind I am not an artist I just pretend to be :)
The Sketch
I sketched it out hoping I would be able to cover all the pencil with the paint. So far so good, you can at least tell what I was going for.
During Painting Process
I wasn't too sure what brushes to use and what kind of brush strokes to use, it reminded me of being a kid and doing the paint by numbers. I loved those things, as long as you stayed in the lines you were good to go!
Finished Painting
I'm not sure what compelled me to paint the owl green and brown, hes/shes looking kinda moldy. Haha But at least I made up for it with the little fellows hanging out in the tree. Hey, I tried. I finished it last week and have yet to send it. My friend lives a couple states away, so I'll never know if she decides to keep the moldy owl hidden...Also while I had my paints out I decided this little guy needed a make over, Pronto!
Thrift Store find $0.69
Have any of you heard of Gnomeo and Juliet? I haven't seen it but would actually really, really like to. It looks so cute...So I'm not sure, yet, if I painted a Capulet or a Montague...
From drab to fab with just a new coat...of paint.

I went with the red hat...And how cute, after Halloween last year when all the Halloween costumes were 75% off I bought my daughter her costume for this year. Can you guess what it is??...I'll give you a hint: it starts with a G and ends with a nome...This cute little number below, only 8 more moths to go :)
I had already planned on making her a gnome costume but for less than $5- I figured why not!? Cute I know.

Filing Cabinet or Room Decor?

If your husband is anything like mine you will understand the craziness. Trying to keep a house, or in our case a small one bedroom apartment, cleaned up is the most difficult of tasks. He has notebooks, papers, mail, pictures, just stuff everywhere. So I thought, a filing cabinet would help him keep his stuff in order and out of the way. I found one at Goodwill for $4- what a deal! But oh the ugliness, especially when his "office" is secluded to a small corner of our living room. The cabinet while still functioning as a filing cabinet turn into an end table. As I began to loathe looking at this thing in my living room I decided to pull out my crafting kit. Here is what I came up with: Of course I have to start with the before pictures...

Before: If you couldn't tell...
One more before...

And now using a sponge brush, Mod Podge, a phone book and blue paint this is what I was able to accomplish: This is the exciting part...

I figured with the cabinet being filled with papers and other paraphernalia I really didn't need to make the inside look any better. And I have just two more for you...

One close up. And that is all I have for you for now. Next post will be another baby project I finished some time ago.

As I begin...

Hello! Thank you, for taking time out of your busy day to read the words I have written here. This is my very first attempt at Blogging and I hope with time I can master the etiquette. First things first, I'll tell you a little about my self, I'm 23 and married to a musician which isn't the easiest of professions to be married to. It makes for long hours, days and weeks away from home but we manage to make it work seamlessly.

We have recently been blessed with a wonderful baby girl! The best thing I could ever hope to have.

Before baby, my babies were Benny and Ellie a Chion (Papillon and Chihuahua mix) and a Dachshund. I still love my dogs and yes they are still my "kids" but baby takes the cake on the ranking chart.  I mean come on you saw that face up there. Such a Cutie Pie!
I do believe the crafting bug bit me while I was pregnant with baby. I had always liked to do little craft projects but now I feel like I can't read enough or make, re-vamp, or anything fast enough. So as my first blog comes to a finish I will leave you with this...my first piece of room decor for baby: added some paint and ribbon and this is what I came up with!
